Exhibition: Encounters
Encounters is a dialogue between generations through art. In the exhibition, the works of two generations meet – those of Terttu Nissinen and her daughter Mervi Vintersvan, as well as those of Pertti Huhtala and his daughter Katja Ekström. On display is a diverse selection of works from different eras, from the 1980s to the present day. Each artist has their own personal way of expressing their creativity, and the exhibition invites the viewer to reflect on heritage, connection, and individuality through art.

Terttu Nissinen
I have been painting since 1986 using oil and acrylic paints. In my works I depict events connected to nature as well as moods and feelings related to different aspects of life, with my style varying from abstract to more representational. As a northerner, I am also inspired by the nature of Lapland and its colors.

I am inspired by creativity and by new ways of expression. I have developed my artistic skills by studying painting at community colleges and by participating in various short courses both in Finland and abroad. I have been actively involved in art associations, which has given me the opportunity to take part in numerous joint and group exhibitions. My works can also be seen on the Art Shop Taiko website: https://www.taiko.art/terttutervaniemi

Mervi Vintersvan
I have studied visual arts through blended studies and art courses. Photography has become an important form of expression for me, and it has been part of my daily life for many years. I especially photograph urban landscapes, architecture, and nature, often from the perspective of simplified visuality, minimalism, and abstraction. In my works, an interest in light, form, and space is repeated.

I have participated in several joint and group exhibitions in Finland as well as abroad, and I have also had solo exhibitions in Helsinki. I completed my visual arts studies at the private Alfa-Art School of Fine Arts, graduating in 2006, and I have complemented my skills at the Vapaa Taidekoulu art school as well as in numerous courses in drawing, painting, and pattern design.

In the upcoming group exhibition at Villa Vinkkeli, photographic works will be on display, and possibly also paintings.

Pertti Huhtala
Pertti Huhtala (b. 1951) is a visual artist from Rovaniemi, whose creative work combines traditional art forms with digital applications. He completed subject studies in visual arts at the University of Lapland in 2019, but his passion for art has deep roots in the past. Since the early 2000s he has deepened his knowledge of digital possibilities, which is visible in his works.

At the center of Huhtala’s art is nature, its diversity, and its constant change. He captures the colors and moods of Lapland’s nature, making use of his wide expertise in different techniques. Oil tempera and acrylic painting, graphic art and photography are part of Huhtala’s expression. He does not shy away from presenting image editing methods or the possibilities of AR technology, but connects them naturally to his art.

Huhtala is particularly interested in nature photography and its different forms, and in the possibilities of AR technology in ecological restoration, as seen for example in his works dealing with migratory fish. His artistic process is one of continuous development, where he may return to earlier works, bringing new perspectives and timeliness to them. He has also served as chairman of the Maahiset Art Association for more than 10 years, which shows his strong contribution to the art community. Huhtala’s art is a living dialogue about the essence of art, offering the viewer profound experiences of nature and its timeless beauty.
